6 Benefits of Getting a Radiology Report

radiology report benefits

Welcome to the Dental Imaging Diagnostics blog! We’ll be adding interesting cases and radiology techniques here so be sure to check back frequently!

I wanted to start off the blog discussing a little bit about the value of getting radiology reports by an oral and maxillofacial radiologist. Every CBCT needs a specific radiology report, whether done by the ordering dentist or by an oral and maxillofacial radiologist.  We as dentists are responsible for all of the findings seen in CBCT like any other imaging modality.

Many dentists are unfamiliar the presence of oral and maxillofacial radiologists as an option to refer their CBCTs. Dental Imaging Diagnostics is here to relieve the burden of crafting this legally important document and helping to identify more dental pathosis for you to provide treat for you patients!

Here are 6 benefits of getting a radiology report:

  1. ROI and Additional dental treatment – often there are dental issues we discover as oral radiologists outside of the area of interest that require your attention and treatment.  This often leads to a significant ROI.
  2. Time savings – If you are a busy practitioner, it is unlikely at the end of the day you will have the time or mental energy to thoroughly review and write reports for the CBCT scans taken in a given day.  Equally from a financial standpoint your time is better spent treating patients.
  3. Legal documentation – As mentioned previously, a radiology report is a legal document showing the CBCT has been reviewed.
  4. Peace of mind – For both you and your patients to ensure that nothing potentially dangerous or even life threatening was missed in the scan.
  5. Co-Diagnosis – As a clinician, it is always helpful to get primary and secondary opinions on diagnosis.  Is there a fracture here? Is there a periapical lesion forming there?  Where is the IAN exactly?  These are all examples of questions we answer every day.
  6. Patient acceptance – We all know many patients are reluctant towards treatment. Whether its fear or distrust, having a document read by a 3rd party can help tremendously in helping your patients understand their dental issues.  Most patients inherently trust radiology reports.
